Celebrating Forests and their role in our lives

IYOF-Logo.jpg

2011 has been designated UN International Year of Forests to celebrate forests right around the world.  It is a year to celebrate the vital roles that forests play in supporting life on earth and, just as importantly, the vital roles that people play in managing healthy forests.

The central theme for the year is Forests for People - celebrating the central role of people in the sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of our world's forests.

The International Year of Forests highlights the many values of forests and the need for a 360 degree perspective: forests provide shelter to people and habitat to wildlife; they foster biodiversity; are a source of food, medicine and clean water; and play a vital role in maintaining a stable global climate and environment.

All of these elements taken together reinforce the message that forests are vital to the survival and well being of people everywhere, all 7 billion of us.

Greenfleet's role as a forest manager

Since 1997, Greenfleet has been replanting native forests around Australia to recapture carbon pollution and restore habitat for wildlife.

Since then we have planted almost 7 million native trees, across more than 400 sites.  The resulting forests are helping to recapture carbon pollution equivalent to more than 400,000 average cars for an entire year.

To celebrate the International Year of Forests, Greenfleet wants to raise money to plant more forests than ever before and we have set a fundraising target of 2 million trees  for 2011

But we need your help!
