10 June 2009
As you know we attended Greenfest in Brisbane last weekend. The most impressive 'green' initiative we saw there was the King George Square Cycle Centre, which is celebrating its first birthday today.
The centre opened its doors on 10 June 2008 and provides facilities for 420 cyclists right in the heart of Brisbane's CBD.
Features of the centre include secure electronic swipecard access; double-decker bike racks; shower, changeroom and locker facilities for 150 females and 270 males; and they even provide a clean towel for you each time you visit.
While you pay for the service, it is cheaper than public transport or driving and you can save on a gym membership because you're exercising during your daily commute. There are membership options to suit everyone from everyday users, to casual one-off visitors.
You can even opt in for extras such as bike servicing and laundering of your work clothes.
The centre is open Monday to Friday, 6am to 8pm.
Obviously, here at Greenfleet we love the centre because cycling is better for the environment than driving your car, but the users of the centre love it because it makes commuter cycling easy, convenient and comfortable.
